Nanaimo "The Harbour City"
Nanaimo is the second largest city on Vancouver Island and known as the “Harbour City”. The annual “Bathtub Race” is held in Nanaimo each year and is one of kind throughout the world. Nanaimo is referred to as the “Hub City” because Nanaimo is central on Vancouver Island.
BC Ferries departs from two local ports with several sailings daily to Vancouver and the Sunshine Coast. An hour’s drive south to Victoria are all the amenities of a larger city. An hour north you will find the Courtenay/Comox valley with world class skiing at Mount Washington. Comox's airport has direct flights to Alberta, bringing many Albertans to the Island. The Nanaimo harbour seaplanes fly direct to downtown Vancouver daily. An old-fashioned boardwalk runs along the downtown harbour, making it ideal for walking. On any given day you will find locals and tourists alike enjoying the fresh air and the beautiful Nanaimo Harbour views. The city of Nanaimo has a trail system that extends over 130 kilometres. Walking and cycling trails are everywhere in Nanaimo, so getting around is easy and pleasurable.
